SENATOBIA, Miss. – The Indians rallied from three double-digits deficits but could not force the game into overtime after a missed three at the buzzer in a 78-75 loss at Northwest Mississippi Community College to open North Division play on Monday.
Trailing 42-30 at halftime, the Indians (3-4, 0-1 MACJC North) rallied to make it a one-point contest when Kendricus Carlton (Batesville) made a lay-up at the 13:28 mark of the second half. The Rangers (6-3, 1-0 MACJC North) answered to take a 10-point lead with 4:11 left to play.
The Indians with a 12-5 run capped off by a three-point from Anfernee Diggins (Greenville) to make cut the Ranger's lead to 77-75 with 8-seconds left in the game. Northwest went 1-of-2 from the free throw line to open the door to allow the Indians to force the game into overtime with a made three. Ma'Darius Hobson (Houlka) rushed three-pointer as time expired but missed off the side rim to allow Northwest to escape with the win.
Hobson led the Indians with 20 points and 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double in seven games this season. Rance Champ (Shannon) came off the bench to score 12 points after going 4-of-5 from three and Shamar Brown (Olive Branch) added 11 points off the bench.
Jitaurious Gordon led the Rangers with 24 points.
ICC will travel to Snead State (Ala.) Community College on Thursday for their next to last game of the 2018 half of the season. The Lady Indians will tip things off at 5:30 and the Indians will follow at 7:30 against the Parsons, who received votes in the latest NJCAA rankings.
