FULTON, Miss. – The Indians posted their first win of the season with a 30-21 victory over Coahoma on Military Appreciation Night.
Clark Mills (Ecru) threw a pair of first quarter touchdown passes of 43 and 19 yards to Barry Flowers (Batesville) to give the Indians a 12-0 lead. He connected with Collins Woods (New Orleans, LA) on a 55-yard scoring toss to put the Indians (1-3, 1-1 MACJC North) up 18-0 at the 14:48 mark of the second quarter.
Flowers had three catches for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Mills threw for 300 yards with four touchdowns and an interception on 15 of 26 passing.
Coahoma (1-3, 0-2 MACJC North) answered with a 6-yard touchdown pass to make it an 18-7 contest before Hiram Wadlington (Oxford) ripped off a 53-yard touchdown run on a fourth-and-one situation to give the Indians a 24-7 halftime lead.
Wadlington finished the game with 134 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries while hauling in three catches for 41 yards.
The third quarter belonged to the Tigers. Joe Johnson found Josh Stevenson for a pair of touchdown passes to cut the Indians' lead to 24-21 heading into the fourth quarter. Mills threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game when he connected with Qua Davis (Biggersville) on a 40-yard toss to put the Indians up 30-21 early in the fourth quarter.
The Indians defense stifled the Tigers rally for the remainder of the night to secure the victory. Keshun Parker (Calhoun City) led the defensive charge with 14 tackles (10 solo; 4 assists) with three sacks and four tackles for a loss. Nick Smith (Cleveland) had 11 tackles (4 solo; 7 assists) while Octavius McClatchey (Independence) and Kenneth Martin (Columbus) each returned an interception 20 yards.
ICC will travel to Booneville to take on rival Northeast on Thursday. The Tigers (2-2, 1-1 MACJC North) dropped a 14-6 decision on Homecoming to Holmes (1-3, 1-0 MACJC North) last week.
