Turnovers doom Indians in loss at Mississippi Delta

MOORHEAD, Miss. – The ICC football team committed five turnovers in its 34-28 loss at Mississippi Delta Community College on Saturday.


Leading 21-7 late in the second quarter, the Indians (4-3, 3-2 MACJC North) saw back-to-back passes picked off and returned for touchdowns to help the Trojans (3-4, 3-2 MACJC North) tie the game, 21-21, and take momentum into the break.

Spencer Unruh (Caledonia) found Jamel Thomas (Caledonia) for a 10-yard touchdown pass on the Indians' first drive of the third quarter to take a 28-21 lead, but the rest of the afternoon would belong to Delta.

Unruh threw for 108 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions on 9 of 16 passing.

Tyrique McAfee scored on a 17-yard run and found Jaquanzi Jackson on 10-yard touchdown pass to put the Trojans up with 2:04 left in the third quarter.

The Indians got the ball back with 57 seconds left in game but threw their fourth interception of the day on the first play from scrimmage allowing the Trojans to kneel their way to the victory.

The loss snapped the Indians' seven-game win streak over the Trojans.

Hiram Wadlington (Oxford) had 103 yards of total offense with 59 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries and one catch for a 44-yard touchdown. De'Sean Dinkins (Warner Robbins, Ga.) added 50 yards on 13 carries while Thomas had 76 yards and a touchdown on seven receptions. Clark Mills (Ecru) had 108 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions on 8 of 21 passing.

Defensively, Cortez Davis (Flowery Branch, Ga.), Kalmorris Robinson (Macon), and LaKendrick Jones (Independence) each had a team-high 10 tackles in the loss. A'Tarius Moore (Calhoun City) had five tackles and a fumble returned 17 yards with Tyrese Quinn (Calhoun City) and Kerry McKenzie (Tupelo) each recovering a fumble while Kenneth Martin (Columbus) had an interception returned for 25 yards.

ICC will look to rebound as they step out of division play to take on Southwest Mississippi Community College (1-6, 0-5 MACJC South) for Homecoming on Thursday. The Bears dropped a 37-9 decision to Pearl River Community College (1-6, 1-4 MACJC South) on Saturday.
