Bobby Straughter, a native of Aberdeen, was a multi-sport student-athlete playing football and baseball in 1977 and 1978 at then Itawamba Junior College.
As a freshman, a late-game touchdown run propelled IJC to a 7-6 victory over Northwest Mississippi Community College to help the Indians earn the North Division Championship in football. He later ran for 71 yards and the eventual game-winning touchdown in the 1977 State Championship game to help the underfog Indians upset No. 2 Jones County Junior College, 13-12.
In his final season in Fulton, Straughter cemented his legacy with 178 rushings yards and two touchdowns in a 17-0 Homecoming win over Holmes Community College. He closed his career at IJC by returning a fumble for a touchdown and hauling in a touchdown catch to help the Indians defeat Copaih-Lincoln Community College, 39-23.
Straughter earned MACJC All-State and All-Star honors while being named Most Outstanding Back in the North Division.
At IJC, he was a member of the Industrial Education Club and Student Government Association as well as being selected to Who's Who as a sophomore.
Straughter has been the Assistant Commissioner for Community Supervisiion for the Tennessee Department of Corrections since 2013.
