Mark Burleson played tennis and baseball during his years at
ICC.
He was the first ever first-team NJCAA All-American in the history
of the Itawamba Community College baseball program. After his
sophomore campaign in1987, the outfielder also received the
prestigious Rawlings Big Stick award, which annually goes to the
nation’s top hitter. That year, Burleson sported a .513
batting average, which is still the single season school record at
Itawamba, and drove in 68 runs.
He was a first-team MACJC All-State and NJCAA Region 23 selection
in both the 1986 and 1987 seasons.
