AC “Butch” Lambert started the then Itawamba Junior
College football program in 1949 and served as Athletic Director
for three years.
He officiated SEC football games for 29 years and called 13 bowl
games and national championship games, all but the Rose and Cotton
bowls. He also called SEC basketball games for 20 seasons and
officiated four NCAA tournaments.
Lambert was the recipient of the “Distinguished American
Award” and was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of
Fame and is recognized in the Hall for his contributions to amateur
athletics in the state.
The AC “Butch” Lambert Field in Jackson is and ICC
football stadium are named in his honor and memory.
