Itawamba Community College’s Mike Eaton will be inducted into the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Sports Hall of Fame Tuesday night in Jackson. Eaton, who currently serves as President at ICC, posted a 111-64-7 record as head football coach of the then Itawamba Junior College (IJC) and now Itawamba Community College from 1976-1992.

“It is a very humbling award,” said Eaton. “It’s an honor that is heartfelt and certainly appreciated to be inducted into the Mississippi Community and Junior College Sports Hall of Fame with colleagues not only from ICC, but the entire state.”

The 111 victories are still top five all-time in the MACJC coaching ranks and top 25 nationally. The Indians won eight North Division championships, played in four bowl games and won two state championships (1977, 1990) during the Eaton era.

The Ripley native coached more than 20 professional players including Tim Bowens, Earnest Dye and Norman Hand.

Eaton, who is already a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Hall of Fame and ICC Athletic Hall of Fame, also served as an assistant coach on the Indians unbeaten 1975 state championship team. He started his coaching career at Ripley in 1973.

In addition, Eaton, who resides in Fulton with his wife Marcia, had the football field at ICC named after him earlier this season.
