Former Itawamba Community College athletic director and head baseball coach Roy Cresap of Fulton was inducted into the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges Hall of Fame in a formal ceremony on April 26 in Jackson.

"Itawamba Community College has played a very large role in my life," said Cresap. "Originally being a student-athlete and then later on baseball coach and athletic director. Now to be inducted into the MACJC Hall of Fame is a tremendous honor and a very humbling experience by looking at the quality of athletes and the coaches that have been inducted in the past."

Cresap was inducted into the ICC Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004 after serving for more than 16 seasons as head baseball coach. From 1982-98, Cresap served as director of student housing, assistant football coach, head baseball coach and athletic director at ICC.

During his tenure as head baseball coach, Cresap earned 450 wins, qualified for nine Region 23 tournaments and coached four All-Star games. He also earned a state championship (1993), coached two junior college All-Americans and was selected 12 times as chairman of the Mississippi Junior College Baseball Coaches Association. His honors also include Mississippi Junior College Athletic Association Coach of the Year.

In the 16.5 seasons that Cresap coached at ICC, 27 of his players became coaches.

"I am really proud and it's a blessing to have that many guys become coaches," said Cresap. "Most of them are still in the area coaching that played here when I was coaching and that gives me the opportunity to go watch them as coaches."

Cresap attended ICC from 1965-67. He played basketball for two seasons and baseball, one year.

A native of Saltillo, Cresap earned both the bachelor's and master's degrees from Delta State University. His career also includes serving as teacher and coach at Saltillo, Houston and New Albany high schools.

He and his wife, Brenda, are the parents of two sons, Brad and his wife, Lisa; and Brian and his wife, Paige. They have four grandchildren, all of whom are involved in sports.

The MACJC Sports Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding athletes and coaches who have participated in intercollegiate sports at one of the 15 community and junior colleges in Mississippi.
