Lofton named 2013 Bennie Abram LEGACY award recipient

FULTON, MS – Itawamba Community College sophomore running back Tobias Lofton (Forest) was presented with the Bennie Abram LEGACY award during a special ceremony before the Indians’ home opener against East Central Community College.

“Tobias is a prime example of everything that Bennie was both as a student-athlete and as a person,” said ICC head football coach Jon Williams. “We are proud to have Tobias not only represent the memory of Bennie and his family, but to also have him representing our football team and the college.”

The award is chosen by the ICC coaching staff and is presented to a sophomore player that they feel best reflects the life and legacy of the former Indian defensive back.

“Bennie was a young man that possessed a lot of great traits that you want in a football player and love to see in people in general through his display of leadership, effort, gratitude, strong passion for academics, character, and being a yeoman,” Williams commented. “Those attributes are why we created the acronym ‘LEGACY’ to truly honor the life and memory of Bennie through this award.”

The award is given to a sophomore player that maintains a 3.0 or above GPA. The recipient will serve as team captain and serve as team captain while wearing a patch of Abram’s number (30) on his jersey throughout the season.

Lofton’s name will be enshrined on a plaque in the ICC football field house along with former winners to help preserve the spirit Abram brought to ICC.

Other winners include: Alex Thornton (Shannon) in 2010, Canden Dallas (Pontotoc) in 2011, and Demarius Howard (Calhoun City) in 2012.

Lofton rushed for a career-high 113 yards on 17 carries in the No. 15 Indians’ 40-7 win against East Central on Military Appreciation Night.
