Indians fall to Lawson State

Birmingham, Ala. – Itawamba Community College volleyball suffered a 3-0 loss to Lawson State Community College Tuesday.

Lawson State (7-4) controlled the first two sets winning 25-19 and 25-11. The Indians (10-4, 0-1) rallied in the third set as they fought to keep the match going, but Lawson State edged out a 25-23 win in the third set to pick up to 3-0 victory.

The Indians picked up 22 total kills, led by Sarah Allyn Thornell (Atoka, Tenn.), but committed 21 errors on 83 attempts.

Defensively, the had 32 digs with Lydia Hitchcock (Boaz, Ala.) leading the team with eight. Thornell picked up 10 assists in the match.

The Indians look to rebound this weekend when they travel to Hanceville, Ala. To compete in the Wallace State Tournament. Friday, the Indians will face Walters State at 3 p.m. followed by Chattanooga State at 5 p.m. Saturday, the Indians will get an early start facing Spartanburg Methodist at 9 a.m. and wrapping up the day with a 1 p.m. showdown with Wallace State.
