Indians win battle over Wabash Valley

Harrisburg, Ill. – The Indians wrapped up the weekend slate of games with a hard fought 3-2 win over Wabash Valley Sunday afternoon.

The Indians (4-0) battled with the talented Warriors squad and won the opening set 25-23. The Warriors picked up a 26-24 win in the second set, and the Indians took a 2-1 lead with a 25-21 win in the third set.

Things were tied at 2-2 with a 25-14 fourth set win by the Warriors, forcing the fifth and final set.

The Indians trailed in the fifth set, but a 10-point serve run by Lydia Hitchcock (Boaz, Ala.) led the Indians to a 15-11 set win and the 3-2 victory.

Sarah Allyn Thornell (Atoka, Tenn.) had a big game with a team and career-high 20 kills, tying the programs single game record, while adding 15 assists and 12 digs.

Three Indians finished with more than 15 digs each with Olivia Hines (Olive Branch) leading the way with 21. Kailynn Johnson (Olive Branch) added 20 digs, followed by Brooklyn Ward (Columbus) with 16. Hitchcock led the team with 20 assists.

The Indians will travel to Bevill State Tuesday for a single match starting at 3 p.m. in Fayette, Ala.
