Indians open season with win over Frontier

Harrisburg, Ill. – The Itawamba Community College volleyball program ushered in a new era Saturday with a 3-1 win over Frontier Community College to give Head Coach Annie McGregor her first collegiate win.

Winning the season opener was not an easy task for the Indians as the victory was hard fought with two sets going past 25 to clinch the set.

The Indians won the first set 27-25, but Frontier evened things up with a 25-23 win in the second set. In what was the most one-sided set, the Indians took a 2-1 lead with a 25-15 third set victory.

In the fourth set, the Indians battled to a 27-25 win to clinch the 3-1 season opening victory.

Defense played a big role in the win as the Indians had 74 total digs in the match led by Olivia Hines (Olive Branch) with 22. Sarah Allyn Thornell (Atoka, Tenn.) followed with 17 digs and Kailynn Johnson (Olive Branch) with 14.

Thornell led the Indians with 21 assists and Johnson led the way with 9 kills.
