Indians win big over Northwest

Fulton, Miss. – The Indians played their first regional match of the year Friday and picked up an impressive 3-0 win over Northwest.

Set One: Indians 25, Rangers 11

The Indians (5-5) started the match on an 11-0 run, but then traded points with the Rangers before taking a 20-8 lead on a Hannah McNeese (Aberdeen) ace.

Zakhia Taylor (Olive Branch) finished off the first set with one of her 11 total kills in the match.

Set Two: Indians 25, Rangers 20

The second set was closer form the start and even though the Indians lead for most of it, the Rangers hung around while only dropping a four decision.

Set Three: Indians 25, Rangers 9

The Indians jumped out to 6-0 lead and Angie Gonzalez (Olive Branch) extended the lead 13-2 with an ace later in the set.

It was all Indians the remainder of the set as they cruised to the 25-9 and 3-0 victory.

Mary Leslie Cranford (Covington, Tenn.) led the Indians with 16 kills and Sarah Allyn Thornell (Atoka, Tenn.) had a team-high 27 assists and 16 digs.

The Indians will hit the road for a match against Mississippi University for Women's JV squad Tuesday with the match scheduled for 2 pm in Columbus.
