Indians roll at UT Southern in straight sets

PULASKI, Tenn. – The ICC volleyball team overcame a slow start to roll over the University of Tennessee Southern in straight sets on Tuesday.

Set One: Indians 25, Firehawks 23

Southern jumped out to an early three-point advantage before the Indians was able to rally to tie the match twice before taking their first lead of the afternoon at 20-19. The Indians went up 23-20 before the Firehawks answered with a 2-0 run out of a timeout. ICC closed the door on the rally and picked up the first set with a 25-23 win.

Set Two: Indians 25, Firehawks 16

ICC took an early 3-0 lead, but Southern pulled even to tie the match at nine each. The Indians quickly answered with a 7-1 run and cruised to the 25-16 win in the second set.

Set Three: Indians 25, Firehawks 13

The Indians bullied their way out to an impressive 7-2 lead and maintained a five-point throughout the early stages of the third set. The Firehawks rallied to make it a two-point contest. Powered by a 6-0 run, the Indians pulled away for the win after back-to-back aces by Hannah McNeese (Aberdeen) and a powerful kill down the middle by LaMaya Newsome (Southaven) closed the door on the match.

ICC is scheduled to host Coastal Alabama-South and Northwest Mississippi at 1:00 and 5:00 on Friday.
