Indians cap off South Carolina trip with big win

Spartanburg, SC. – In their fourth match in less than 24 hours, the Indians wrapped up the Spartanburg Invitational with a 3-0 win over USC Lancaster.

Set One: Indians 25, Lancers 6

The Indians (2-2) started strong jumping out to a quick 7-1 lead and never let up in the opening set. Back-to-back aces by Sarah Allyn Thornell (Atoka, Tenn.) extended the Indians' lead to 19-4 and they cruised to the 25-6 set victory.

Set Two: Indians 25, Lancers 18

The hot start carried over to the second set early as the Indians jumped out to a 10-4 lead capped off by an ace from Kailynn Johnson (Olive Branch). However, the Lancers would find some momentum and cut the lead down to 18-16. However, the Indians went a 7-2 run to take the second set and a 2-0 lead.

Set Three: Indians 25, Lancers 19

It was another hot start in the third set for the Indians as they took a 10-3 lead, but once again the Lancers rallied to cut the lead to five. However, the Indians were able to close out the set and pick up the 3-0 win and improve to 2-2 this season.

The Indians will be on the road again next weekend as they travel to Mobile, Ala. for the Bishop State Wildcat Classic. Friday the Indians will face the host Bishop state at 5 p.m. followed by a match with Southern Union State at 7 p.m. Saturday morning, the Indians will take on Snead State at 10 a.m. and finish up with Gadsden State at noon.
