Indians rebound to knock off Richard Bland, 3-1

SPARTANBURG, South Carolina – After dropping their first match of the season, the Indians rebounded to pick up a 3-1 win over Richard Bland College out of Virginia in their second match of the Spartanburg Methodist Invitational on Friday.

Set One: Indians 25, Statesmen 19

Down 7-1, the Indians had to take an early timeout to compose themselves in the opening set – and it worked. ICC quickly went on a 10-1 run out of the timeout before cruising to the 25-19 win.

Set Two: Statesmen 25, Indians 20

The Statesmen drew even in the match after picking up a 25-20 win on a serving error by the Indians.

Set Three: Indians 25, Statesmen 13

ICC left little doubt in the third set after racing out to a 10-5 advantage. They doubled up the Statesmen for most of the match before taking a 2-1 lead with a 25-13 win.

Set Four: Indians 25, Statesmen 18

Neither team could build more than a three-point lead in the final frame until a Zakhia Taylor (Olive Branch) hammered home a kill that gave the Indians a 19-15 advantage. Mary Leslie Cranford (Covington, Tenn.) extended the Indians' lead to five with a blistering kill down the line. Londyn Bakeris (Olive Branch) secured the first win on the season with an ace to close out the match.

ICC will be back in action Saturday morning when they face Roane State College (1-0) at 7 a.m. and USC Lancaster (0-1) at 9 a.m.
