Indians fall in playoff battle with Pasco-Hernando State

Leesburg, Fla. – The Indians historic first season came to a close Thursday with a hard fought five set postseason battle with Pasco-Hernando State in the NJCAA Gulf District Championship quarterfinals.

The Indians (13-7) fell behind early dropping the first set 25-15 and the second set 25-19. However, the Indians fought hard in the second set and their fight paid off in the third set as they won 25-17 capped off by a Londyn Bakeris (Olive Branch) ace.

In the fourth set, the Indians picked up a 25-21 win to force the fifth and final set.

As expected the final set was a back-and-forth battle and it couldn't be contained to the normal 15 points to win it. However, the battle would end with Pasco-Hernando State taking the final frame 17-15 to pick up the 3-2 victory.

LaMaya Newsome (Southaven) and Lauryn Fitzgerald (Nesbit) led the Indians with 12 kills each and Morgan Lee (Olive Branch) picked up a team-high 36 assists.

Angie Gonzalez (Walls) led the team with 23 digs, followed by Bakeris with 22, Tori Brooks (Steens) with 19, Fitzgerald with 14 and Lee with 11.
