Indians open Spring Break with a sweep of MUW

Fulton, Miss. – The Indians started their busy Spring Break with a pair of wins as they swept Mississippi University for Women early Monday. Against the Owl JV squad, the Indians won 3-0 and the followed with a 3-0 win over the varsity team.

Game 1: Indians 3, (JV) Owls 0

The Indians picked up the 3-0 win by winning the sets 25-15, 25-15 and 25-17. It was a full team effort picking up the wins as the Indians had 10 different players record kills led by Zakhia Taylor (Olive Branch) with eight.

Londyn Bakeris (Olive Branch) had a team-high 12 digs and 11 other Indian recorded at least one dig in the win. Morgan Lee (Olive Branch) led the team with 15 of the Indians 30 assists in the game.

Game 2: Indians 3, (V) Owls 0

In the match against the varsity Owls, the Indians completed the sweep winning the sets 25-15, 25-19 and 25-13.

Mary Leslie Cranford (Covington, Tenn.) and LaMaya Newsome (Southaven) led the Indians with nine kills each.

Lee had a big game with 37 assists and Bakeris led the team with 23 digs.

The Indians will be on the road for the rest of Spring Break and will play four game in three days against Pearl River, Coastal Alabama East and Southern Union State.
