Indians defeat Coastal Alabama East 3-1

Brewton, Ala. – The Indians defeated Coastal Alabama East 3-1 Friday night in their first game of the round robin hosted by the Warhawks.

The Indians took the first two sets, 25-17; 25-20, but the Warhawks battled to take the third set 25-22. In the fourth set, the Indians were able to fight their way to a 25-21 win to pick up the victory.

With 11 kills in the 19 attempts, Zakhia Taylor (Olive Branch) led the Indians and LaMaya Newsome (Southaven) followed with nine kills of her own.

Morgan Lee (Olive Branch) had a team-high 25 assists and added three service aces. Karli Rae Rushing (Fayette, Ala.) added 11 assists for the Indians.

Londyn Bakeris (Olive Branch) had an impressive 17 digs to lead the Tribe, and Tori Brooks (Steens) had seven digs and a team-high four service aces.

The Indians will face the Warhawks against Saturday morning and then face Southern Union State to wrap up the road trip.
