Indians top Bevill State in three sets

Boaz, Ala. – The ICC volleyball team defeated Bevill State (25-20, 25-16, 25-6) to win the program's first-ever official match on Saturday.

Mary Leslie Cranford (Covington, Tenn.) led the Indians with 13 kills in her collegiate debut. Brianna Williams (Olive Branch) added six kills while LaMaya Newsome (Southaven) and Lauryn Fitzgerald (Nesbit) added five kills each.

Londyn Bakeris (Olive Branch) led the team with 10 digs while Morgan Lee (Olive Branch) dished out 24 assists.

As a team, the Indians hit .394 in three sets.

First Set

Bevill State opened the match on a 5-0 run before the Indians rallied to take a 12-11 advantage. The Bears used a 5-1 run out of a timeout to tie the match at 17-all. The Indians regained momentum and answered with an 8-3 run to pick up the win.

Second Set

The Indians carried over their momentum to the second set and jumped out to an 11-5 advantage. Bevill answered with a 4-0 run out of another timeout to pull within two. The Indians quickly pushed the lead back out to nine before cruising to the 25-16 victory.

Third Set 

Bevill tried to rally behind a pair of quick timeouts, but the Indians' 17-5 lead proved to be too much for the Bears to overcome in the final set as the Indians closed the door on the match with a 25-6 win.
