Crouch advances to No. 6 singles semifinals

TUPELO, Miss. - The Lady Indians jumped into the thick of things on Day 2 of the MACJC and NJCAA Region 23 tennis tournaments in Tupelo. 

In the No. 1 sinlges backet, Julianna Alves dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Kennedy Rodriguez of Meridian. Maggie Creekmore fell to Carmen Manicea of Co-Lin 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 singles while Kaitlyn Meadows was eliminated from the No. 3 singles bracket after a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Danielle Viljoen of Jones. Later in the afternoon, Kara Clark of Co-Lin knocked off Caroline Ferguson 7-6 (2), 6-3 in No. 4 singles and Dixie Hodges beat Farah Fowlkes 7-6 (6), 7-6 (6) in No. 5 singles. 

Alves and Creekmore fell in the No. 1 doubles quarterfinals to Paula Coronado and Carmen Manicea of Co-Lin 6-3, 6-1. Caroline and Claire Ferguson defeated Alex Tindall and Bethany Wellerman of East Central 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the No. 3 doubles semifinals before being eliminated by a 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 loss to Judith Mills and Danielle Viljoen of Jones. Fowlkes and Meadows fell to Gabriela Gomez and Kayla Baucum of East Central 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 2 doubles semifinals. 

Riley Crouch defeated Shelly Duncan of Holes 6-0, 6-2 and will take on Judith Mills of Jones, the top seed in the No. 6 singles bracket, in the semifinals on Friday.
