Lady Indians defeat Northeast 7-2

FULTON, MS – Itawamba Community College's women's tennis program picked up a big rivalry win Tuesday as the Lady Indians defeated Northeast Mississippi Communtiy College 7-2.
The day started with two quick wins in doubles action as the team of Jordan Roberts (Shannon) and Bailey Gillentine (Mooreville) won 8-2 in the No. 1 slot and the duo of Lizbeth Jiminez (Pontotoc) and Karlin Garrett (Tupelo) won No. 2 doubles 8-4.
Northeast won No. 3 doubles 8-1, but the Lady Indians held a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Roberts won 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles and Gillentine followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 2 slot.
In No. 3 singles, Garrett won a battle in the first game 7-5, but controlled the second game, winning 6-0.
Northeast was able to win a hard fought No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-7(3), 11-9.
In the final two matches, the Lady Indians would wrap up the day to pick up the team win as Jimenez won 6-1, 6-0 and Emily Buster (Prattville, AL) wrapped up the day with a 6-4, 6-1 victory.
The Lady Indians improve to 3-7 this season and will travel to Jones County Junior College Friday, March 31 for matches starting at 1 p.m. in Ellisville.
