FULTON, MS – Former ICC tennis coach Paul Johnson announced sophomore Andria Barnes has signed to continue her career at Blue Mountain College next season.
The Mooreville native advanced to the No. 2 singles championship match of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) tournament and to the semifinals in No. 2 doubles.
Barnes finished 9-3 in singles this season and 6-5 in doubles competition.
As a freshman, Barnes helped the Lady Indians earn a No. 18 ranking in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll after finishing 18th in the 2015 NJCAA Women's DI National Tennis Tournament in Tucson, Arizona.
The Lady Indians won the 2015 MACJC Championship and a share of the NJCAA Region 23 Championship with Barnes teaming up with Madison Scott (Mooreville) to bring home the No. 3 doubles championship in the final match of the tournament. The victory helped ICC earn a share of the program's sixth region title and 15th conference championship.
She finished 10-4 and advanced to the No. 2 singles championship match while finishing 11-2 in doubles as a freshman.
Barnes will join former ICC soccer player Olivia Dunnam (New Albany) as a member of the newly former tennis program at Blue Mountain.
