Lady Indians pick up fifth straight win

SENATOBIA, MS – The Itawamba Community College Women's Tennis program improved its current win streak to five on Monday with a 9-0 victory over Northwest Mississippi Community College.
Madison Scott (Mooreville) and Kacy Byrd (Mooreville) started the day with a dominating 8-1 win in doubles action, but the Lady Indians (7-1) found themselves in tight battles in the other doubles matches.
The duo of Andria Barnes (Mooreville) and Meredith Lee (Nettleton) fought to an 8-5 win while Jordan Roberts (Shannon) and Ivy Robbins (Pontotoc) held on for an 8-6 victory.
In singles action, the Lady Indians only lost 15 games as they took every match in straight sets. Lee captured her match win by defeating Kendall McCoy 6-2, 6-4 in the closest match of the day.
Scott blanked Emily Newman 6-0, 6-0; and Byrd picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kaylan Myers. Roberts defeated Northwest's No. 1 Katie Burrall 6-1, 6-1 while Barnes defeated Poper Johnson 6-1, 6-3.
Robbins wrapped up the shutout win with her 6-0, 6-2 victory.
The Lady Indians will put their five game win streak on the line in Fulton, Saturday as they host Jones County Junior College at 10:30 am.
