Griffin, Hudson advance to consolation semifinals

TUCSON, AZ – Sophomores Anna Claire Griffin (Iuka) and Aliesha Hudson (Yazoo) advanced to the consolation semifinals of NJCAA Women's National Tennis Tournament with a pair of wins on Tuesday.
Griffin defeated Marina Schmditz of Harford Community College (MD) 8-3 in the No. 4 singles consolation quarterfinals while Hudson notched an 8-1 victory over Lindsey Walker of Moraine Valley Community College (IL).
Both Griffin and Hudson will play a pair of matches on Wednesday to lay claim to their flight consolation championships.
Byrd's magical run comes to an end in semifinals
Kacey Byrd's magical run in the No. 6 singles championship bracket came to an end after a 6-0, 6-1 loss to No. 2 seed Casey O'Toole of State College of Florida.
"Kacey played a great this week," said Coach Paul Johnson. "She might be a little disappointed right now, but when she looks back at what she accomplished she'll realize just how special this was."
The freshman from Mooreville finished as one of the top eight players in the nation amongst No. 6 singles competitors.
