FULTON, MS – The ICC women's tennis team won the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) championship and a share of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 crown this past weekend in Tupelo.
Andria Barnes (Mooreville) and Madison Scott (Mooreville) were put in a must win situation for the Lady Indians to earn a tie with Jones County Junior College in the final match of the day and the No. 3 doubles duo did not disappoint.
Barnes and Scott defeated Angel Seals and Lexi Johnson of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 7-5, 6-0 to earn the individual championship and send the entire team storming onto the court to celebrate the victory.
Other individual championships for ICC includes: No. 1 singles Taylor Patterson (Munford, TN), No. 5 singles Aliesha Hudson (Yazoo City) and No. 6 singles Kacey Byrd (Mooreville).
ICC and Jones County finished with a team total of 26 points and the Lady Indians won the state title on the conference tiebreaker rule of the team with most players participating in championship matches.
For the Lady Indians, it's the program's fourth MACJC title in five years and 15th overall state championship while the share of the Region championship is their first region crown since 2001 and sixth overall region title.
ICC will participate in the NJCAA National Tennis Tournament from May 2 to May 8 at the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, AZ.
