No. 21 Lady Indians take down No. 17 Meridian again

FULTON, MS – In a battle of national powers and MACJC foes, the No. 21 Itawamba Community College Lady Indians handed No. 17 Meridian Community College a 5-4 loss for the second time this season.
The Lady Indians (7-0) had an outstanding showing on the singles side of the contest winning five of the six matches. Taylor Patterson (Munford, TN), the 39th ranked player in the nation, picked up a win, 6-1, 6-4 and Andria Barnes (Mooreville) followed suit with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
Aliesha Hudson (Yazoo City) and Kacey Byrd (Mooreville) both blanked their opponents in the first game, 6-0. Hudson went on to finish off her foe 6-3 in game two and Byrd took her second game 6-4.
Anna Claire Griffin (Iuka) had a battle with Taylor White that she would fight through to win 7-5, 7-6 (7-4). Meridian's Jennifer Smith, who is ranked 41st in the nation, picked up the Lady Eagles only singles victory as she squeaked past Ivy Robbins (Pontotoc), 6-4, 7-6 (1).
In doubles, the Lady Eagles took two of three but the duo of Griffin and Robbins picked up an 8-2 win which proved to be the game winner.
The Lady Indians will take their perfect record on the road this weekend with games at Jones County Junior College on Friday and will play Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Saturday.
