Frederick, ICC tennis earn academic postseason honors

FULTON, MS – Sophomore tennis player Amber Frederick earned the highest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) academic honors when the organizations released their postseason awards.
The Shannon native finished her final season as a Lady Indian with a perfect 4.0 GPA to earn the prestigious NJCAA Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence and earned a spot on the MACJC Distinguished Academic All-State list.
As a freshman, Frederick won the No. 6 Singles MACJC Championship and finished runner-up in the No. 3 Doubles to help lead the Lady Indians to the 2013 MACJC State Championship and a No. 17 ranking in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
Sabrina Holloway (Mantachie) earned a spot on the MACJC Academic All-State team with her 3.29 GPA while Shannon's Caleb Ballard (3.57) represented the MACJC State and NJCAA Region 23 Champion Indians on the Academic All-State squad.
Ballard teamed with Joseph Summers (Amory) to advance to the semifinals of the No. 3 Doubles Consolation Bracket before losing to the eventual champions. The Indians finished 15th amongst the nation's elite programs and had the highest finish in the national championships amongst participating MACJC programs.
The Lady Indians finished the 2013-14 school year with a 3.27 accumulative GPA to be ranked amongst the top women's tennis programs in the nation.
