Lady Indians shut out Pellissippi in season opener

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The women's soccer team defeated Pellissippi State Community College, 2-0, in its 2023 season-opener on Thursday in Knoxville, Tenn.

Julia Benneckstein (Lichtenstein) broke open a scoreless contest when she scored the first goal of the season off an assist from Addison Pletzke (Clinton) midway through the second half. The sophomore roommates teamed up when Benneckstein sent home a corner kick from Pletzke to take a 2-0 advantage with 15 minutes left in the match.

Asia Robinson (Horn Lake) was impressive in her collegiate debut. The freshman keeper collected six saves in a complete match effort.

The Lady Indians (1-0) will return to action on Monday when they take on Southwest Tennessee (0-0) in their home opener. The First American National Bank open kick is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the ICC Soccer Complex and will be streamed on LetsGoICCTV.com/red - pending weather.
