Joyce, Shinall named United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Americans

FULTON, Miss. – The United Soccer Coaches announced the association's 2019 Women's Scholar All-America Teams for all levels of college soccer this past week. For the second-straight year the Itawamba Community College had two players selected to the Junior College team.

Sophomores Grace Joyce (Oxford) and Ally Shinall (Oxford) were selected to the Second Team.

Joyce, a pre-engineering major, finished second on the team with 12 goals and tied with most assist on the season with eight while starting all 21 games. She had 32 points with a .789 shot on goal percentage. Joyce was selected to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region 23 Team.

Shinall, a biology major, had five goals and six assists while starting all 21 games this season. She totaled 16 points with a .692 shot on goal percentage. Shinall was selected to the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-Conference honors and signed with the University of West Georgia.

Both Joyce and Shinall were selected to the 2018 NJCAA All-Region 23 team as freshmen.

To be eligible for the Scholar All-America recognition, student athletes must have a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or better on a 4.0 scale throughout their career, started more than 50 percent of all game and significantly contributed to the team, mist be a junior or above in academic standing or in second year at the school if a transfer student, and players must be nominated by their head coach.

Joyce and Shinall both had a 4.0 GPA and were the only players from the MACJC and NJCAA Region 23 to be selected for the honor. Addison Meadows (Oxford) and Lexi Pund (Tupelo) was selected to the Scholar All-America Team last year.

Student-athletes on this year's Scholar All-America Teams will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom at the All-America Ceremony and Reception on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Baltimore Convention Center in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
