Lady Indians rally to defeat Northwest in overtime

Senatobia, Miss. – It was a bit of déjà vu as the Lady Indians rallied to defeat Northwest 2-1 in overtime on a game winner by Grace Joyce (Oxford).

The Lady Indians (4-3, 3-1 MACJC North) trailed 1-0, but Emily Hayward (Oxford) netted the equalizer at the 72nd minute that eventually forced overtime.

Joyce then scored the golden goal off an assist from Brittany Mathis (Pontotoc) 36 seconds into overtime to get big North Division win.

The golden goal is Joyce's first of the season, but is her second against Northwest as she netted another last season 22 seconds into overtime in the Lady Indians 3-2 win last season.

Early in Tuesday's game, Northwest scored their lone goal from long range, but freshman keeper and current MACJC Keeper of the Week, Anna Wesleigh Driskell (Tupelo) picked up the win and grabbed two saves.

With their first half of division play complete, the Lady Indians are currently in second place while the rest of the division foes have one more division game to play before reaching the halfway point.

The Lady Indians won't face a division opponent again until Oct. 1 when Holmes, who leads the division, visits Fulton. However, they will return to Fulton Saturday for a non-division showdown with Mississippi Gulf Coast at 1 p.m.
