Lady Indians fall to No. 13 Holmes

FULTON, Miss. -  In a battle of undefeated teams, the Lady Indians (4-1-0, 2-1-0) suffered their first loss as No. 13 Holmes (6-0-0, 3-0-0) took advantage of two quick first half goals to pick up the 3-1 win. Despite the loss, the Lady Indians are still off to the best start in program history.

How it Happened

Holmes took a 2-0 lead late in first half scoring under three minutes apart before Brittany Mathis (Pontotoc) cut the Lady Bulldogs lead to 2-1 15 minutes into the second half.

The Lady Indians had several scoring opportunities in the second half but were unable to find the equalizer and Holmes added a goal in the closing minutes to put the game out of reach.

Mathis scored the Lady Indians' lone goal in the hard fought contest which is her fourth of the season.

Renasant Reaction

"We didn't play our best in the first half," said Coach David Strother. "We made some tactical adjustments in the second half and the girls responded to it well to it and got the goal that made it 2-1. This is something we can build off of and this was a good contest to help us get where we want to be."
