Lady Indians dominate Southwest with 6-0 win in home opener

FULTON, Miss. – Motivated by preseason comments, the Lady Indians defeated Southwest Mississippi, 6-0, behind a dominant performance to move to 2-0 on the season.  

How it Happened

Addison Meadows (Oxford) found Francisca Galleguillos-Pollarolo (Santiago Nunoa, Chile) off a rebound from a corner kick to give the Lady Indians a 1-0 lead in the early stages of the match.

Sarah Whitt (Pontotoc) scored off a perfect cross from Brittany Mathis (Pontotoc) to push the lead out to 2-0.

Maisy Sumner (Blackburn, Lancashire) sent a free kick from 40 yards out over the head of the keeper to give the Lady Indians a 3-0 advantage at the break.

Mathis scored her second goal to give ICC a 4-0 edge off an assist from Meadows, her second of the match.

Galleguillos-Pollarolo beat the keeper on a one-v-one opportunity to score her second goal of the afternoon to put the Lady Indians up 5-0.

Mathis bounced her second goal of the match off the post after an assist from Ally Shinall (Oxford) to give ICC the 6-0 victory.

Savannah Sartin (Fulton) picked up the win in her first collegiate start. She collected a pair of saves in 32 minutes in net while combining with Haley McGill (Guntown) and Merrie Kate Grayson (Tupelo) for the clean sheet.

Galleguillos-Pollarolo scored a pair of goals in the match and leads the Lady Indians with three goals on the season. The sophomore Chilean forward scored two goals and had two assists last season. She and Mathis lead the Lady Indians with six points on the season.

"We've had two different game plans for two different opponents and I thought we've executed each game plan for each opponent almost flawlessly," said Coach David Strother. "To go out and get early goals and continue that press all the way through the game, I was very please and very proud how they of how they executed the details."

Up Next: The Lady Indians will travel to Tennessee to take on Dyersburg State (0-1) on Wednesday. The Lady Eagles are in their inaugural season as a DI soccer program.
