POPLARVILLE, Miss. – Behind an aggressive offensive attack mixed with a tough defensive effort, the Lady Indians (1-0) opened the season with an impressive 4-1 win at Pearl River on Wednesday.

How it Happened

Halle Moore (Oxford) gave the Lady Indians a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick after Brittany Mathis (Pontotoc) was tackled inside the box.

Addison Meadows (Oxford) went top shelf from distance to quickly followed Moore's goal to give ICC a 2-0 advantage before halftime.

Sarah Whitt (Pontotoc) lifted a quick shot over the head of a charging keeper to put the Lady Indians a 3-0 advantage.

Pearl River took advantage of its second penalty kick of the game to make it 3-1 late in the match.

Francisca Galleguillos-Pollarolo (Santiago Nunoa, Chile) added the exclamation point on the victory with an unassisted goal in the final moments of the contest.

She closed the first half with another tricky save to keep the Lady Wildcats off the board and secure the Lady Indians' 2-0 lead heading into halftime. She had five saves on the day.

Renasant Bank Reaction

"It was a great way to start the 2018 season," said Coach David Strother. "I thought we did about as the best we could to execute all the details we wanted to with our system and our tactics. Obviously, it's the first game of the season and not everything went perfect but it was good enough to get the result we wanted and we are super pleased about it."
