FULTON, MS - Sophomore Kate Hester (Pontotoc) has received the prestigious Mississippi Teacher Education Program scholarship for math.

Hester, who will be a 2016 graduate, has been a member of the ICC women's soccer team, All-American Marching Band and Wind Band as well as Phi Theta Kappa president and Baptist Student Union Bible Study coordinator. She also serves as youth intern at the First Baptist Church of Amory. Her honors include Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholar, All-Mississippi Academic Team first Team and PTK's Order of the Golden Key.

She is the daughter of Ken and Temple Hester.

The MTEP is a full scholarship with room, board, book stipend and a study abroad program. It is a collaboration between the University of Mississippi and MSU to attract the top performing students to teacher education programs with full scholarships and professional incentives.

Funded by the Robert M. Hearin Support Foundation in Jackson, the program is designed to create a unique "honors college style" learning experience for high achieving education students and provide collaboration between students and faculty at both universities.

Kelsey Holder (Fulton) also recieved the award for English/Spanish.
