Lady Indians fall to Lady Warriors

FULTON, MS – The Lady Indians have battled in some close games lately and Friday's North Division match up with East Central wasn't any different as they fell 2-1.

Coming off a 1-0 loss to Meridian and a two overtime draw with Northwest, the Lady Indians (2-9-1, 0-4-1) knew the one loss Lady Warriors would be another tough opponent. The first half was a back-and-forth battle with both teams have their chances to break the tie. However, the game went to halftime with the teams still scoreless courtesy of several saves by keeper Emily Munn (Pontotoc).

At the 52nd minute, the Lady Warriors broke the tie off the foot of Tamia Cavett and held a 1-0 lead. Their lead wouldn't last long though as Rebekah Miller (Pontotoc) beat the Lady Warrior keeper for the equalizer at the 69th minute.

With time winding down, both teams were getting scoring opportunities, but neither could find twine to take the lead. With under six minutes left in the match, the Lady Warriors (11-1-1, 4-0-1) were able to score the go ahead goal and take a 2-1 lead.

The Lady Indians rallied in the final five minutes and had some scoring chances including a corner kick with under a minute to play. The corner kick was deflected out of bounds to give the Lady Indians one last chance. However, the horn sounded right when the ball was set, and the Lady Indians fell 2-1.

The Lady Indians will hit the road on Wednesday as they travel to Goodman to take on the Holmes Lady Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
