FULTON, MS – The Itawamba Community College women's soccer team opened the season with a 4-1 loss to Gulf South Conference member Delta State University on Monday.

Delta State played their varsity squad in the first half and junior varsity in the second half of play.

"It's good to play teams like Delta State to get us ready for the tough competition that's ahead of us this season," said ICC assistant coach Cody Carson. "I thought we played well… and I'm proud of the girls."

The Lady Indians' (0-1; 0-0 MACJC North) lone goal came on a free kick when sophomore Demi Menotti (Starkville) scored off an assist from freshman Miranda Chapman (Saltillo) in the 41st minute.

Freshman Emily Munn (Pontotoc) gave up three goals with the second of the three coming off a lucky rebound after she recorded one of her seven saves in 45 minutes in net.

"Emily had a great first half," commented Carson. "We gave up two easy goals that weren't here fault… if she wouldn't have been in the goal the score might have been a little bit worse."

Former Lady Indian turned Lady Statesmen, Courtney Baker (Amory) saw action against her former team.

The Lady Indians will look to rebound when they host Meridian Community College at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
