FULTON, MS -- Itawamba Community College Athletic Director Carrie Ball-Williamson announced a record number of athletic programs earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) academic honors as five of the college's 10 intercollegiate athletic programs were honored on Friday.

"We are well-known for our outstanding athletic programs here at ICC and a large part of that success can be traced back to our coaches stressing the importance of excellence in the classroom," said Ball-Williamson. "When a student-athlete does what it takes to perform at a high level in the classroom that same type of hard work and dedication shows in their respective sports."

The women's soccer team finished second in the nation with the team's overall 3.42 Grade Point Average (GPA) and was only .02 points away from earning the NJCAA academic crown amongst the nation's women's soccer programs.

The men's tennis team earned third in the nation with an overall 3.47 GPA and was .29 points away from earning the top academic spot amongst the nation's men's tennis programs.

The men's soccer team finished tied for third amongst NJCAA schools with a team GPA of 3.10 and was .05 away from the nation's top spot.

The state champion women's tennis team earned a Top 10 finish coming in ninth place with the program's 3.45 GPA while the North Division champion softball team also earned national academic team honors for their 3.19 GPA.
