Lady Indians win big in season opener

Fulton, Miss. – Itawamba Community College women's basketball opened up the 2022-23 season with a big win over Columbia State Community College Tuesday night.

Despite a slow start, the Lady Indians (1-0) finished the final three quarters strong on their way to a 72-40 win.

In the opening quarter, the Lady Indians struggled to find their shot, but rallied to take a 16-10 lead by the end of the quarter.

The Lady Indians outscored the Lady Chargers 20-14 in the second to take a 36-24 lead into the half, and came out of the break with a dominate second half, holding the Lady Chargers to only four points in the fourth quarter.

Makayla Rieves (Columbus) led the offensive charge for the Lady Indians with a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Shayla Golden (Jacksonville, Ark.) added 14 points and 13 different Lady Indians put points on the board.

Thursday, the Lady Indians will travel to Huntingdon College for their first road test of the season against the JV squad at 5:30 p.m.
