Lady Indians fall to Coahoma in MACCC Tournament

Poplarville, Miss. – The Itawamba Community College women's basketball team faced a familiar opponent in the opening round of the MACCC Tournament Monday, squaring up with Coahoma Community College for the third time this season.

The team split the regular season, but the Lady Tigers emerged victorious in the postseason, eliminating the Lady Indians from the tournament in a 68-56 decision.

In the first quarter, the Lady Indians (14-9) came out flat and trailed 18-9 heading into the second quarter and trailed 37-21 at halftime.

The Lady Indians cut the lead to 10, 46-36, after outscoring the Lady Tigers 15-9 in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was a tight battle with Coahoma outscoring the Lady Indians 22-20, but the first half deficit proved too much for the Lady Indians to overcome.

Nadia Gillespie (Olive Branch) led the Lady Indians with 18 points, followed by R'Daztiny Harris (Hickory Flat) with 15 points.

The Lady Indians await their seeding and opponent for the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament that is set to begin next week.
