Lady Indians comeback comes up short against East Mississippi

Fulton, Miss. – After a low scoring first half, the Lady Indians outscored East Mississippi in the second half, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. The impressive comeback fell just short with the Lady Lions winning, 56-52.

The Lady Indians (12-8, 7-6 MACCC) were held to only 12 points in the first half and trailed 33-12 at halftime. Despite halftime adjustments, the Lady Indians fell behind by 20, 41-21, halfway through the third quarter.

Trailing by 19, 48-29, at the start of the fourth, the Lady Indians began to chip away at the lead. Demetria Shephard (Pontotoc) and Amelya Hatch (Ripley) led the comeback for the Lady Indians and a rebound and put back basket by Ky'Leo Worriels (Hinesville, Ga.) cut the Lady Lions' lead to three, 52-49, with just over a minute left to play.

However, the Lady Lions would hold on to pick up the 56-52 win.

Shephard led the Lady Indians with 21 points, followed by R'Daztiny Harris (Hickory Flat) with 14.

The Lady Indians will hit the road for their final road trip of the regular season Monday as they travel to Goodman to face Holmes Community College at 6 p.m.
