Lady Indians hold on to defeat Southwest

Fulton, Miss. – Itawamba Community College women's basketball picked up a scrappy 61-57 conference win over Southwest Mississippi Community College Thursday night.

The Lady Indians (11-6, 7-3 MACCC) trailed for most of the first halibut remained in striking distance. At halftime, the Lady Bears (13-7,8-3 MACCC) held a 32-24 advantage.

However, by the end of the third, the Lady Bears saw their lead disappear and the game headed to the final frame knotted at 43-43.

The Lady Indians went on an 8-0 run early in the fourth to take a 51-45 lead, but the Lady Bears cut the lead down to two, 56-54, with under a minute to play. A mixture of a good defense and making their free throws, pushed the Lady Indians to the 61-57 win.

Demetria Shephard (Pontotoc) led the Lady Indians offense with 21 points, followed by R'Daztiny Harris (Hickory Flat), Amelya Hatch (Ripley) and Ky'Leo Worries (Hinesville, Ga.) who followed with 10 points each.

Gabby Bunch paced the Lady Bears with 15 points.

The Lady Indians will hit the road Monday for a conference showdown with Co-Lin Community College at 6:00 p.m. in Wesson.
