Lady Indians defeat Gulf Coast

Fulton, Miss. – Itawamba Community College women's basketball picked up a 70-62 conference win over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Thursday night behind behind a pair of big performances.

A career night by Nadia Gillespie (Olive Branch) with 15 points and 10 rebounds combined with a 15-point performance from R'Daztiny Harris (Hickory Flat) lead the Lady Indians (11-4, 6-1 MACCC) in the conference battle.

The Lady Indians led for most of the contest but the visiting Lady Bulldogs (12-5, 4-3 MACCC) tied the game at 42-42 with five minutes left in the third quarter. However, Che'mya Carouthers (Tupelo) scored five unanswered points to spark a 14-5 run and give the Lady Indians a 56-47 lead heading into the final quarter.

Gulf Coast would cut the Lady Indians lead to eight in the final frame, but the Lady Indians were Abel to hold on to pick up the win.

Demetria Shephard (Pontotoc) also had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win, followed by Ky'Leo Worriels (Hinesville, Ga.) with 11 points.

The Lady Indians will hit the road Saturday for a conference showdown with Pearl River Community College at 2:00 p.m.
