Fulton, Miss. – Career high performances from Demetria Shephard (Ponototoc) and Amelya Hatch (Ripley) led Itawamba Community College to a 76-70 win over Northwest Mississippi Community College Monday night.
Shephard scored her career high 30 points while shooting 10-19 from the field while Hatch tied her career-high with 20 points while shooting 8-12 from the field.
The two guards paced the Lady Indians' offense and Nadia Gillespie added in 12 points.
Even with the standout performances, the Lady Indians (5-1) had to battle to pick up the victory as they trailed by a slim margin for most of the first half.
At the end of the opening quarter, Northwest (4-2) held a 23-21 lead and remained ahead by two, 34-32 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Lady Indians would outscore Northwest 23-19 to take a 55-53 lead into the final frame.
The Lady Indians never lost the lead in the fourth quarter as they picked up the six-point win.
Ky'Leo Worriels (Hinesville, Ga.) led the Lady Indians with 12 rebounds while Shephard and Gillespie had nine each to finish one shy of a double-double.
The Lady Indians will travel to Clarksdale Thursday to take on Coahoma Community College at 5:30 p.m.
