Lady Indians pick up road win over Northeast

Booneville, Miss. – In their first road test of the young season, Itawamba Community College women's basketball picked up a 72-66 win over rival Northeast Thursday night.

The Lady Indians (2-0) trailed at the end of the first three quarters, but a strong fourth quarter propelled them to victory.

At the end of the first, the Lady Indians trailed 19-11 and but cut the Lady Tigers' lead to four, 32-28, by halftime.

In the third, the Lady Indians continued to chip away at the lead and only trailed by one, 47-46, heading to the final quarter.

R'Daztiny Harris (Hickory Flat) gave the Lady Indians their first lead of the game on a jumper with 9:31 left to play, and after three lead changes, she put the Lady Indians in the lead for the final time with 5:04 remaining.

The Lady Indians were able to stretch the lead in the final five minutes on their way to the 72-66 victory.

Demetria Shephard (Pontotoc) led the Lady Indians with 21 points, followed by Harris with 20, and Amelya Hatch (Ripley) with 11 points.

The Lady Indians will stay on the road for their next game when they travel to Montgomery, Ala. Saturday to face Huntingdon College's JV team at 2 p.m.
