Lady Indians rally to defeat Pearl River in overtime

Scooba, Miss. – In the first round of the MACJC Tournament, the Lady Indians picked up a come-from-behind 67-66 overtime win over Pearl River to advance to the tournament semifinals.

The Lady Indians (18-5) trailed for most of the contest and were down 47-38 with just under seven minutes to play.

In the final minutes, the Lady Indians went on run to pull within one point several times before Mariah Holland (Oxford) tied the game at 57-57 with 15 seconds left in the fourth.

After Pearl River regained the lead on a pair of free throws, Tabreea Gandy (Starkville) made contested shot from inside the paint with 1 second left in regulation to force overtime tied at 59-59.

The teams exchanged baskets in the overtime period and Pearl River took a one point lead ,66-65, with 23 seconds left on the clock. On the following possession, Kealy Wilson (Olive Branch) hit a jump shot over two defenders to put the Lady Indians up 67-66. A missed three-pointer by Pearl River at the buzzer gave the Lady Indians the thrilling victory.

Gandy and Wilson led the Lady Indians with 14 points each and Tatyana Norment (Forrest City, Ark.) followed with 10 points. Wilson also grabbed 12 rebounds to pick up the double-double.

The Lady Indians will face No. 10 Jones in the tournament semifinals Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Scooba. The game will be available on LetsGoICCTV.com/red
