Lady Indians battle to a 70-63 win over Mississippi Delta

Fulton, Miss. – After having a bye date last week, the Lady Indians had to fight their way past Mississippi Delta Monday night to pick up the 70-63 North Division win.

The Lady Indians (16-3, 8-1) held a three-point lead at the end of the first quarter, but trailed 33-31 at halftime.

With 2:29 left in the third, the Lady Indians went on a run to pull within one, 40-39, and managed to take a slim 48-46 lead headed into the final frame.

Halfway through the fourth, Whitney Watkins (Decatur, Ala.) scored a quick five straight points on a jumper and a three-pointer to put the Lady Indians up by four, 56-52. However, with just under a minute remaining, the Lady Trojans only trailed by three points.

In the final minute, the Lady Indians were able to create some separation on the borad and picked up the hard fought win.

Watkins led the Lady Indians with 21-points, followed by Tabreea Gandy (Starkville) with 12 and Kealy Wilson (Olive Branch) with 11 points.

The Lady Indians will travel to Clarksdale Thursday for a North Division battle with Coahoma. In their first meeting this year, the Lady Indians picked up a slim 60-56 win in Fulton. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
