Lady Indians fall in overtime at East Mississippi

The Lady Indians only hit one three points in a 65-59 overtime loss at East Mississippi on Thursday.

ICC rallied from a 15-12 first quarter deficit to sneak into halftime with a 29-28 advantage. Both teams traded basket back-and-forth throughout the third quarter before the Indians were able to take a 42-40 lead into the final frame.

East Mississippi controlled the boards in the fourth quarter to tie the game 51-51 with less than a minute to play. Tabreea Gandy (Starkville) drove the lane and put up a tough, challenged jumper in the paint that rolled off the rim. The Lady Lions quickly grabbed the rebound and called a timeout to advance the ball to midcourt but a missed shot as time expired allowed the game to go into overtime.

The Lady Lions took advantage of opportunities from the free throw line to put the game on ice down the stretch and take sole possession of first place in the North with the 65-59 win.

Shomaria Overton (Leland) came off the bench to led the Lady Indians with a career-high 17 points. Kealy Wilson (Olive Branch) added 12 and Gandy chipped in 10 in the loss.

Ja'Mia Hollings scored 16 points and had 15 rebounds for East Mississippi.
