Lady Indians win North Division opener over Northwest

Fulton, Miss. – The Lady Indians opened MACJC North Division play Thursday night with a gritty 66-64 win over Northwest.

After struggling to find their shot in the first quarter and trailing 17-6 at the end of the frame, the Lady Indians (6-2, 1-0) went on a 28-8 run in the second quarter to hold a 34-25 lead at the break.

However, the Lady Rangers were able to rally in the third quarter as they went on an 11-0 run between a pair of ICC timeouts to take a 51-43 lead with two minutes left in the quarter.

The fourth quarter was a battle, but the Lady Indians trailed 64-63 in the final minute of the game until Tabreea Gandy (Starkville) picked up a steal underneath the basket after turning the ball over, and then put home the game winner with 31 seconds left on the clock. The game's final point came from the free throw line and the Lady Indians picked up the big division win heading into the Christmas break.

Gandy led the Lady Indians with 22 points, followed by Shimia Williams (Booneville) with a career-high 15, and Lymyia Fifer (Louisville) with a career-high 10 points.
