Lady Indians win big in season opener

Fulton, Miss. – ICC women's basketball started the season and kicked off the Coach Robin Porter era with an 83-55 win over Volunteer State Monday.

The Lady Indians (1-0) started slow and trailed 21-20 after the first quarter, but then held the Lady Pioneers to only four points while going on a 17-0 run in the second quarter to take a 41-25 lead into halftime.

Led by a 13-point second half by sophomore guard Whitney Watkins (Decatur, Ala.), the Lady Indians led by as much as 30  on their way to the season opening victory.

Watkins finished with a career-high 20 points and sophomore point guard Tabreea Gandy (Starkville) finished with 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Mariah Holland (Oxford) added 11 points in her colligate debut and sophomore guard Kealy Wilson (Olive Branch) scored 10-points.

The Lady Indians will hit the road for the first time Thursday when they travel to Montgomery, Ala. To face Huntingdon College's JV squad at 6 p.m.
